"It is my pleasure to endorse Sheriff Jack Parker for re-election as the Brevard County Sheriff. Since taking office in January 2004, Sheriff Parker has done an outstanding job serving the citizens of this County leading a nationally accredited organization of over 1400. During his first term in office, Sheriff Parker has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing quality law enforcement services and improving the quality of life for every Brevard County resident. During his campaign for Sheriff in 2003, Sheriff Parker made several promises to the people of this County and followed through by implementing each and every one; he reduced overcrowding in what was considered the most dangerous jail in the State of Florida, he put prisoners to work cleaning up the streets, eradicating unsightly graffiti, making their own uniforms and even making the mattresses they sleep on. Sheriff Parker re-structured the organization, put more uniformed deputies on the street and has lead a county wide effort against violent crime and illegal drugs, all while saving the taxpayers millions of dollars in the process.
His creative ideas on reducing jail overcrowding and using inmate labor for expansion and renovation saved over 30 million dollars in taxpayer money. One of his campaign promises was a commitment to protect our children from dangerous Sexual Predators and Offenders. In response to that promise, Sheriff Parker created a Sexual Offender Tracking Unit that has become so successful; it has been recognized as a model throughout the State of Florida.
In today’s tough economic times, it is more important than ever that Law Enforcement agencies in Brevard County build partnerships, communicate on a daily basis and share valuable resources to combat crime and keep our communities safe. As the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the County, it is the Sheriff that the municipal agencies look to for these partnerships. Under the leadership and guidance of Sheriff Parker, I can say without reservation, these things do happen. The level of teamwork in this county is unparalleled and is demonstrated on a daily basis by the various joint task forces and initiative’s currently operating. Task Forces that are enjoying great success, formed for the sole purpose of fighting violent crime and putting career criminals in jail.
On a personal note, I have known Jack Parker for almost 25 years. In that time, he has consistently proven himself to be a successful and innovative leader, displaying knowledge, character, and integrity. Jack Parker has earned a second term as the Brevard County Sheriff, I urge each of you to cast your vote and re-elect Sheriff Jack Parker on November 4th 2008.

The weeklong CIT training provides deputies and officers with real-time risk assessment and de-escalation skills when involved with persons diagnosed with chronic mental illness.
"After hearing the need for CIT training in 2006, Sheriff Parker could have said a few words on the subject, smiled for a photo-op and walked away. Instead he rolled up his sleeves and made it happen. Today, The Brevard County Sheriff's Office has an ongoing, professional Crisis Intervention Team training.
"We may never know the number of lives, both of Sheriff Deputies and those diagnosed with a mental illness, that have been saved because of the knowledge that CIT training provides. We do know that the citizens of Brevard County are better for it.

"A little over 20 years ago I was leaving my tour as an Air Force Security policeman and was about to begin my career with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. I was going to be starting down a road as a corrections officer and I had no idea where or how far that road would take me. Very early in my new found career I met Sgt Jack Parker. I was lucky enough to have him as my supervisor for a short and I remember that period as the one when I decided that I wanted to stay with the Sheriff's Office, in corrections specifically. Jack was the kind of supervisor that I had the good fortune to have learned from in the Air Force and as a firefighter before that. He was a leader. I didn't have to try to find out what Jack was like, I could tell. This was a man who was going somewhere. A supervisor that led by example, stood side by side with his officers, and someone who you knew would do his best to do what's right...every time. I am proud to have looked upon Sheriff Parker as a role model for the last 20 years, no matter what role in Public Safety he was performing.
