Sexual Offenders and Predators

Over the past 3 years, there have been tremendous improvements throughout the State regarding the registration and tracking of Sexual Offenders and Sexual Predators. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has played a significant role in leading that initiative.

We understand that nothing is more precious than the innocence of a child and we remain steadfastly committed to protecting Brevard County from Sexual Offenders and Predators. We are particularly proud of several creative and effective initiatives implemented by your Sheriff’s Office.

In 2005, in partnership with the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners, we created the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Offender and Registration Tracking (S.O.R.T.) Unit.  This highly trained team of sheriff’s personnel is committed to ensuring Sexual Offenders and Predators register with our office when they are released from prison. Our SORT Unit personally makes unannounced regular visits to these Offenders and Predators to make sure they are complying with their conditions of release and have not moved without notifying our Unit. Those who do not register or violate their release conditions are no longer able to “stay under the radar” and avoid capture. It is imperative that every Criminal Justice agency in Brevard County know the exact location of every Offender and Predator, where they live and where they work. Failing to register, failure to notify us of any change in residence or other required personal information will guarantee them a return trip to the County Jail and from there, Prison.

In 2005, Sheriff Parker also entered into a contract with “Watch Systems” in order to provide two additional services to the citizens of Brevard County.

  1. Their program “Offender Watch” automatically sends a post card mailing with important information and a photograph of the offender to residences within a half mile radius of an offender’s address.  Citizens can even sign up for email alerts to alert them immediately if an offender or predator moves close by.
  2. Citizens can also go to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Website at www.BrevardSheriff.com and search their area for listed Sexual Offenders and Predators.  Citizens can type in an address anywhere in Brevard County and receive critical information to include the photograph of offenders and predators.

Additionally, anytime we capture a Sexual Offender or Predator, citizens and the media are immediately notified through the use of Public Information Press Releases, particularly if there is any concern that other children may have been victimized, but have not yet come forward.

Although Sheriff Parker was the first Sheriff in the State of Florida to use “Offender Watch”, many Sheriff’s in Florida have followed his lead. The program has proven so successful; the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is adopting the program to serve citizens on a statewide basis. We are very proud of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and all of the dedicated employees that continue to lead the charge in such an important mission, protecting our children.
